Is Sicily safe? Once we were asked this question because of the Mafia, today because of the coronavirus 'SARS-CoV-2' and the 'COVID-19' infection it causes.
Our answers (as of the end of May 2020):
The 'COVID-19' situation in Sicily is comparable to that of Denmark.
Sicily is currently preparing at full pace for a summer season with sensible Covid precautions in force.
International flights are scheduled to resume in July.
The rules of the game are the same ones we know from pandemic experts the world over - Sicily is no exception: 2m social distancing, keep spaces ventilated wherever possible, wash hands.
With a spacious, sunny apartment and a rental car, you won't find these difficult to stick to.
Even in winter, while the north of the country may struggle with a cold climate and poorly ventilated rooms, Sicily averages over four hours of sun per day and mild temperatures allow you to take all the fresh air you need.
