Holidays in Sicily and Covid-19
Is Sicily safe? Once we were asked this question because of the Mafia, today because of the coronavirus 'SARS-CoV-2' and the 'COVID-19' infection it causes.
Our answers (as of the end of May 2020):
- The 'COVID-19' situation in Sicily is comparable to that of Denmark.
- Sicily is currently preparing at full pace for a summer season with sensible Covid precautions in force.
- International flights are scheduled to resume in July.
- The rules of the game are the same ones we know from pandemic experts the world over - Sicily is no exception: 2m social distancing, keep spaces ventilated wherever possible, wash hands.
- With a spacious, sunny apartment and a rental car, you won't find these difficult to stick to.
- Even in winter, while the north of the country may struggle with a cold climate and poorly ventilated rooms, Sicily averages over four hours of sun per day and mild temperatures allow you to take all the fresh air you need.
